Why us

Scrapers and brushes on the shingles — and a soft wash only where washing helps

  • Out of Parksville every morning

Nanoose Bay is a short run south of our base and Bowser a longer one up the coast. Errington, Coombs and Hilliers are back roads we know well, so no corner of Oceanside counts as out of the way.

  • Moss work since 2021

Five wet seasons on this coast have shown us where a roof turns green first: the slope that misses the afternoon sun, the valley that fills with needles, the eave under a leaning cedar.

  • Soft wash, not a blaster

Shingles and cedar shakes never get high pressure from us. Moss comes off with scrapers and brushes, washing is a low-pressure soft wash, and higher pressure is saved for jobs that need it, such as a concrete walkway.

  • Insured, WCB-registered, guaranteed

We are locally owned and operated and carry insurance and WCB registration. The guarantee is simple: if a slope we did falls short, we come back and make it right.

About our crew

The process

From first call to a clear roof

1

Send us the details

Call or text (250) 555-0100, or fill in the form. Give us the street address, the roofing material if you know it, and a rough idea of where the green is worst.

2

A price before the ladder

Size, pitch and height, the material, how deeply the moss has rooted and which trees overhang the roof all go into a free quote. Nothing starts until you say yes.

3

Cleared with hand tools

Garden beds under the eaves get tarped. We work each slope from the top down with plastic scrapers and soft brushes, open up the valleys, and haul every bag of moss off in our truck.

4

Treated, then reported

Where it helps, the bare roof gets a treatment to slow the regrowth. Then you hear about anything we noticed, a split shake or loose flashing, and the decision stays with you.

Get on the list for the next dry spell

We only walk a roof once its surface is dry. Take the free quote, and we will book the first dry day that suits you.

Where we work

Ten communities around Parksville

Our area follows the coast from Nanoose Bay up through Parksville, French Creek and Qualicum Beach, then north-west along Highway 19A to Dashwood, Qualicum Bay and Bowser. Inland, west of Parksville, it takes in the rural properties of Errington, Coombs and Hilliers, where tall timber keeps a lot of roofs in shade.

Got questions?

What Oceanside homeowners ask us

What does moss actually do to shingles and shakes?
It sits on the roof like a wet sponge. Rain that should run straight off stays in the mat, and the roots creep under the bottom edge of each tab and prise it up. Asphalt shingles shed the mineral granules that shield them from UV, and cedar shakes stay damp long enough to soften and split. Nothing fails overnight, but a few winters of it add up.
Is there a season you would recommend?
Whenever the rain lets up for a few days. Moss fattens through the wet half of the year, so spring is a popular time to clear it, and September is handy before the fall rain returns. We only walk a roof with a dry surface, so a wet forecast means a phone call from us and a new date.
Do you use a pressure washer on roofs?
Never at high pressure on shingles or shakes. A high-pressure jet knocks the granules off asphalt and splinters the fibre of cedar. The moss itself comes off with hand tools, and where a roof does need washing it gets a low-pressure soft wash. Higher pressure is for tasks that call for it, such as concrete driveways and walkways.
How soon will the moss show up again?
That depends on the roof. A slope in deep shade under Douglas fir greens up sooner than an open one that bakes in the afternoon sun. Treatment, zinc strips near the ridge and cutting back overhanging limbs all slow it down, and we will tell you which of them make sense for your house. Nothing stops moss outright, and we will not claim otherwise.
Does someone need to be home while you work?
Not usually. Everything happens outside. If the yard is gated, leave the latch open and keep dogs and cats indoors that day. We let you know once the moss is gone and we have packed up.
Which communities are on your list?
Ten of them: Bowser, Coombs, Dashwood, Errington, French Creek, Hilliers, Nanoose Bay, Parksville, Qualicum Bay, Qualicum Beach. Homes on the rural roads between them count as well. Not sure whether yours does? Send the address and we will confirm it.
